Sign in to Finmind with Google or Telegram

You do not need a separate password for every service. Finmind lets you sign in with a Google account or a Telegram account, alongside or instead of an email and password. This guide goes further than the basics: what happens the first time you use each button, how Finmind decides which Finmind account you belong to, how to link and remove several sign-in identities, and why some requests are refused on purpose.

What Finmind receives from each provider

From Google Finmind receives a signed token with Google's stable identifier for you, your email address and your name. Finmind uses the stable identifier to recognise you later, never the email, because an email address can change hands. The email Google reported at the moment you linked is stored for support only.

From Telegram Finmind receives your numeric Telegram user id and the name and username Telegram shares. Telegram does not share an email address. On finmind.uz the button uses Telegram's own login window ("Log In With Telegram"), and Finmind checks Telegram's signature on the answer before trusting it.

Neither provider gives Finmind your Google or Telegram password, and Finmind cannot read your mail or your chats.

Your first sign-in with Google

On the sign-in or registration page, press the Google button and choose your Google account. What happens next depends on whether Finmind already knows you:

• The Google account is already linked to a Finmind account: you are signed in.
• No Finmind account uses that email: a new Finmind account is created with your name from Google. When you sign up, the page asks you to confirm that you are 18 or older and to accept the terms; if you press the button before ticking them, it says "Tick both boxes, then press the Google or Telegram button again."
• A Finmind account with that email already exists: Google is linked to it only when Google is the authoritative owner of the address, which means a Gmail address or a Google Workspace address. An address Google once verified but does not control is not allowed to attach itself to an existing Finmind account.

This last rule protects you against a known trick. Someone could register a Finmind account with your email address before you arrive and wait. When you then sign in with Google and prove you own the address, Finmind makes sure you, the proven owner, end up in sole control: for a Finmind account whose email was never confirmed, the other person's password, sign-in methods and two-factor settings are removed and all their sessions are ended.

Your first sign-in with Telegram

Press Sign in with Telegram or, on the registration page, Sign up with Telegram, and approve the request in Telegram.

• The Telegram account is already linked as a sign-in method: you are signed in.
• It is new to Finmind: Telegram confirms who you are, and the page asks for the email address for your new Finmind account. The address starts unverified and you confirm it with a code, because Finmind sends sign-in notices and messages about your Finmind account there.
• The email you enter already has a Finmind account: the sign-up is refused and you are sent to sign in with your password instead. A Telegram sign-up never links itself to an existing Finmind account.

There is one more case. If your Telegram is connected to the Finmind bot only for notifications, that link alone does not sign you in to the website. Sign in with your password or Google, then turn it into a sign-in method in Settings. The bot and Mini App themselves are covered in how to use the Finmind Telegram bot and Mini App.

Two-factor authentication still applies

Signing in with Google or Telegram does not skip your second factor. If two-factor authentication is on, Finmind asks for your code after the provider confirms you.

For Telegram there is an extra safeguard: a Telegram sign-in never accepts a code delivered by Telegram as its second factor. If your two-factor method is Telegram codes, a Telegram sign-in asks for your password or a recovery code instead. Otherwise one stolen Telegram account would be both of your factors.

Linking more sign-in methods in Settings

Open Settings and find Sign-in methods. It lists every way into your Finmind account: your Password, Email one-time code (with whether it is available on the server), and each linked Google and Telegram account. OneID is listed too, marked Not available yet until the contract with the state operator is signed.

To add one:

1. Press Link another Google or Telegram account, or the link button for one provider.
2. Choose the Google or Telegram account in the window that opens. To add a different Google account from the one you are signed in to, switch to it in that window.
3. Confirm it is you, then press Link Google or Link Telegram.

Confirming means your current password if you have one, your second factor if two-factor authentication is on, and for a Finmind account with neither, a sign-in within the last 10 minutes. This stops someone who only borrowed an open browser session from adding their own Google or Telegram as a way in.

You can link several Google or Telegram accounts, for example a personal and a work Gmail, up to five per provider by default. One Google or Telegram account can belong to only one Finmind account. Give each a Nickname such as "Work Gmail" with Rename, so you can tell them apart; this needs no confirmation.

Every link and removal is announced to you, by email (or in your Finmind notifications) and in Telegram where connected, so an unexpected change stands out.

Removing a sign-in method

Press Remove Google or Remove Telegram next to the entry and confirm it is you. Two things happen:

• every other session of your Finmind account is signed out, because Finmind cannot tell which sessions that identity started;
• if the Telegram account you remove is also your Finmind bot chat, the chat is disconnected in the same step. The button then reads Remove Telegram and disconnect the chat, and the dialog warns that notifications, Telegram Stars invoices, Mini App sign-in through that chat and two-factor codes by Telegram stop.

Finmind refuses to remove your last way in. If a Google account is your only sign-in method, you see: "This is the only way to sign in to your Finmind account. Set a password in Settings or link another method first." A Telegram notification chat does not count as a way in for this check, because the Mini App cannot set a password or link a method.
