Finmind student discount and referral program explained

How the Finmind student discount works with a verified .edu email, and how a referral link gives your friend 10% off and you account credit.

Most of Finmind is free: you can browse every UZSE share and listed bonds without an account, and learning, portfolio tracking, the simulator and manual trading are free once you sign up. The other modules are sold one by one (see what paid features add). When you do pay for something, two programmes can lower the price: a student discount for anyone with a verified university email, and a referral programme that rewards both you and the friend you invite. This post explains the real rules, including the conditions that are easy to miss.

The student discount

Students get 10% off every paid feature. There is no code to type and nothing to apply for. Finmind checks the email address on your account each time it prices your cart, and if the address is academic and verified, a line called "Student discount" appears in the price breakdown automatically.

Which email addresses count

An address counts as academic when its domain:

  • ends in .edu, for example cs.stanford.edu;
  • ends in .edu. plus a country code, for countries whose registry keeps that ending for accredited institutions. Uzbekistan is on the list, so a tuit.edu.uz address qualifies, and so do .edu.kz, .edu.tr and a number of others;
  • is on the list of university domains that Finmind maintains, subdomains included. This covers universities whose addresses use a different ending.

Some countries are left out on purpose, because anyone can buy a name under edu there. Internationalised domain names (with non-Latin characters or xn-- labels) never count by pattern, since they can imitate a real university. They count only when Finmind has added that exact domain to its list.

Why verification matters

An academic address alone is not enough: it must be verified. In Settings, the Email section shows whether your address is Confirmed or Not confirmed. If it is not confirmed, choose Verify email and Finmind sends a one-time code to that address. Once you enter the code, the discount applies from your next quote.

The check runs on every quote, against your current address. If you change your sign-in email to a non-academic one, the discount stops. If you signed up with a personal address, you can switch your sign-in email to your university address in Settings with Change email: Finmind sends a code to the new address and switches over once you confirm it, which also marks the new address as verified.

The referral programme

Every Finmind user can hold one active referral code. You create it on the Billing page, in the Discounts and referrals card, with Create my referral code. The card then shows your code and a Copy link button. The link opens the registration page with your code attached.

What your friend gets

A friend who creates an account through your link gets 10% off their first purchase. The registration page tells them so before they sign up. "First purchase" means their first payment that Finmind approves. Payments that are rejected or cancelled do not use it up.

A referral can only be attached when an account is created. An existing account cannot be linked to a code later. If your friend signs up with Google or Telegram instead of the email form, the code from the link is remembered in their browser and claimed when they open a buying page, but only within 24 hours of the account being created and before they have made any payment.

What you get

When your friend's first purchase is approved, you receive account credit equal to 10% of what they actually paid, rounded down to whole soʻm. The credit shows up at once, but it is held before you can spend it. The hold is currently 14 days from the approval, and the card shows the exact date for each pending amount.

If the purchase is refunded, the reward is taken back. If that happens after you already spent it, your credit balance can go negative, and any new credit pays that down first. There is also a monthly limit on how many referrals per person earn a reward. Referrals past the limit are still recorded, but they add no credit.

What the card shows

The Discounts and referrals card lists how many people you Invited, how many are Waiting for a first purchase, how many were Rewarded, and the total Credit earned. You can replace your code with New code, but your old link then stops working for new sign-ups, and you can create at most five codes in a day.

Self-referral is blocked

You cannot use your own code. Finmind also treats two accounts as the same person when they share an email owner (for example [email protected] and [email protected]) or a Telegram account, and it checks this again at the moment the reward would be paid. In that case no reward is given.

How the discounts combine

The student and referral discounts do not stack with each other. If you are a student and also joined through a friend's link, you get the larger of the two. Both are 10%, so you pay 10% less, not 20%.

Finmind can also run seasonal campaigns, some of them with a code that you type under Have a code? in the cart. Whether a campaign adds to your personal discount or competes with it depends on how that campaign is set up, and all discounts together are limited by an overall cap. The cart shows every line between the List price and the amount To pay, so you can always see which discount applied and why.

Spending account credit

Account credit is a balance in soʻm that you spend on Finmind features. At checkout, tick Use my account credit in the cart. Credit comes off after all percentage discounts, and only for a basket priced in UZS. If discounts and credit cover the whole price, there is nothing to pay and the purchase is approved automatically.

Credit that is still on hold cannot be used yet. While part of your balance is pending, the card shows how much is Spendable now next to each pending amount and its date. To keep your account and your credit safe, it is worth turning on two-factor sign-in as well (see account security and 2FA).

Frequently asked questions

Does a Gmail address get the student discount?

No. Only academic domains qualify: addresses ending in .edu, in .edu.uz or another listed national academic ending, or on Finmind's list of university domains. The address must also be verified with a one-time code in Settings.

Can I combine the student discount with a referral?

No. The two personal discounts do not add up, and the larger one applies. Both are 10%, so a student who joins through a referral link still pays 10% less on the first purchase, not 20%.

When can I spend the credit I earned from a referral?

After the hold ends, which is currently 14 days after your friend's first purchase is approved. The Discounts and referrals card on the Billing page shows the exact date for each pending amount, and a refund of that purchase takes the credit back.

Can I add a referral code to an account I already have?

No. A referral is attached only when an account is created, or, for an account made with Google or Telegram, within 24 hours of its creation and before any payment has been made.

Start with a free account

A free account adds portfolio tracking from your broker's statements, the market-wide order book and a practice simulator. Market data, valuation, price alerts and the investor tax declaration are bought per feature.
